Character Information
Name: Jane Howlett, aka Logan.
Code Name: Wolverine, Weapon X.
Gender: Female.
Age: Unknown - perhaps as much as 140 years, although she appears to be in her early to mid 30s.
Race/Ethnicity: Mixed Canadian/Native American Metis.
General Appearance: Height: 5 11. Weight: 175. Logan has a rough and serious appearance and although striking, would generally not be considered extremely beautiful. She has a well-conditioned, rather muscular physique. Her long, dark hair is naturally styled into two untidy wolf-like points on either side of her head (think Barry Windsor Smith Weapon X) with the rest hanging down her back in choppy uneven layers to her mid back. Her skin is a warm bronze, and she has a series of black tribal style tattoos across the sides and back of her neck, her arms, shoulders, waist, hips, back, buttocks, thighs and outer calves (this is an attempt to have something equivalent to Logans usual body hair). It has the flavor of a Yakuza full body tattoo (irezumi) with more coverage.
Distinguishing Characteristics: full body tattoos (see above), three 10 inch claws in each forearm, distinctive hairstyle (see above). Logan is rough, tough and wild.
Uniformed Appearance: Logan favors skintight black leather and vinyl uniforms, reinforced with Kevlar while she is working, to allow her freedom of movement as well as stealth.
Affiliation: Unaffiliated, though technically aligned with the Brotherhood. Currently Logan works as a mercenary and assassin for the Erik Magnus. Her services are available to the highest bidder, and anyone may hire her.
Hellfire Club Status: Member (purchased membership).
Family: unknown
Personality: Logan strives to keep her feral nature in check. She constantly fights to keep the animal within herself at bay. She has been known to slip into berserker rages, where she will fight with the strength and abandon of a woman who has nothing left to lose. She also struggles to remember her life before the adamantium bonding process. She is haunted by nightmares of these tortuous experiments and half forgotten demons. Logan has an intense sense of personal honor, largely based on the Japanese samurai code of Bushido. She is intensely loyal to and protective of those she cares about. Unfortunately, there are few if any people she currently does care about. Because of her constant need to keep herself under control, and her tendency to succumb to wanderlust, Wolverine can be a bit of a lone wolf, taking off for days at a time to prowl the darker and seedier parts of the worlds underworld communities, or the remote Canadian wilderness.
Powers: Wolverine has an uncharted healing factor that allows her to heal almost any wound or injury, and also slows her aging processes. She has retractable 10" bone claws in her forearms that can extend from the backs of her hands. Both her skeleton and her claws are bonded with an unbreakable metal called adamantium. The metal bonded to her skeleton combined with her healing factor makes her extremely difficult to kill. The adamantium has also increased her strength noticeably to above that of a peak human. She is extremely fast and has superior reflexes (above that of a peak human, but not superhuman). Wolverine has greatly enhanced senses: smell (similar to that of a wolf, approximately 100% greater than a normal human), taste (50% greater than normal and enhanced by her sense of smell), hearing (similar to that of a wolf, she can hear sounds upwards of 80 kHz with the ability to hear over great distances) sight (about 25% greater then normal with good night vision) and touch (25% greater than normal). These senses allow her to create sensory memory files of individuals and track them with great accuracy, even over long distances and several days. Because of the effects of her healing factor and the intensive memory implants and alteration she has endured, Wolverine is largely immune to the powers of even the strongest of telepaths, due to the chaotic nature of her mind, but may be able to hear concentrated bursts of telepathy.
Weaknesses: Wolverine is susceptible to the effects of intense sound, such as high pitch, and extremely loud noises. Intense/strong scents may also affect her adversely, and interfere with her ability to track her quarry. Guns, fire, electricity and other conventional weapons can harm her, but she has a high pain tolerence, and her healing abilities kick in immediately after injury, making her very hard to kill.
Other Abilities: One of the best hand to hand combatants on the planet, Wolverine is an expert in demolition and explosives, and various weapons styles, both guns and traditional martial arts weapons. Having trained in the traditional samurai dojo of Ogun, Logan is also proficient in numerous weapons systems and styles of unarmed combat. She also speaks and reads Japanese, Spanish and Russian fluently as well as some Chinese.
Detailed History: The bulk of Logans past is a mystery, mostly because of her memories being altered and faked by the mysterious Weapon X group, the Black Ops agency responsible for bonding the adamantium to her bones in their attempt to turn her into a perfect killing machine. Combined with the earlier effects of her healing factor, these false memories have made it impossible for Wolverine to discern fact from fiction when recalling her past. She knows little of her former life, except that it was filled with pain and loss. Every new answer she discovers about her past leads to more questions.
For the past 15 years, after the adamantium was bonded to her skeleton (what amounts to Wolverines remembered past,) she has been working as a mercenary and an assassin. Her services have been available to whoever can afford her fee. She has traveled all over the world in the course of her work, and spent a notable amount of time in Japan and Madripoor, where she is well respected and trusted by the Oyabun of several prominent Yakuza clans. Prior to that, in her largely unknown past, Logan was part of Team X, a coverts Black Ops group working for various governments. One of the other members of this team was Sabretooth, a mutant with similar powers to Wolverines own. Theirs was an uneasy alliance during their tenure within the team. The two are natural antagonists - Logan never trusted the other mutant, and they fought each other more than once. She views herself as the consummate professional nothing she does in her work is ever personal; but to her, Sabertooth is a psychopath without honor who enjoys killing for the sake of killing. Wolverine has few memories of this time in her life, but one thing she does remember is that Sabertooth viciously killed one of their fellow teammates, Silver Fox Wolverines lover. She has never forgotten nor forgiven Sabretooth for his murder. Once Team X was dissolved, Logan was handed over to Weapon X for experimentation by the Canadian government, who thought her unique mutant abilities would prove interesting and valuable to the scientists overseeing the project.
Logan was born Jane Elizabeth Howlett in 1860 in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of John Logan Howlett and his mixed breed French/Cree/Ojibwe wife Elizabeth, who died when Logan was a small child. Her mothers health was always frail, especially mentally, and consequently Jane did not spend much time with her. After Elizabeth died, John received a commission to serve as the Canadian Ambassador to Japan, a position he eagerly accepted. The loss of his wife had been hard on him, and despite his fathers objections at taking a child to such a barbaric country he left without hesitation for Edo in 1864 and a position in the declining Tokugawa Shogunates court.
Once he arrived Howlett threw himself into his work and in the process became completely enamored of and submerged in the culture of his new homeland. He went completely native. Young Jane and her father lived in a traditional Japanese home with Samurai retainers, wore Japanese clothes and lived as natives. John was deeply influenced by Shinto and Buddhism, finding within it a way to be reunited with his dear departed wife via reincarnation. He quickly incorporated both religions into his life, and raised Logan in them as well, scandalizing his remaining family in Canada as he left Christianity by the wayside. Having always wanted a son, but devoted to the daughter that looked so like his beloved Elizabeth, Howlett encouraged Jane to begin training in the traditional Japanese martial arts at the age of six, something not unusual for a girl child in the samurai class. Her samurai guards became her first teachers, and she showed an natural ability as she progressed through her studies. She learned the old ways, the Japanese language and the code of Bushido the Way of the Samurai.
In 1868, soon after Prince Mutsuhito became emperor Meiji, radical nationalist groups working for a stronger Japan united under the emperor, and toppled the Tokugawa Shogunate, replacing it with a unified administration headed by the sovereign. Howlett was allowed to remain as the Canadian Ambassador to the new emperor, but he was carefully watched by the new Imperial government because of his samurai sympathies. While he had not openly opposed the overthrow of the Shogunate, he had secretly supported the Shogun and the samurai class with money and weapons from Canada. In 1874 his ties to the Shogunate were discovered and his crimes against the Emperor were exposed. The Imperial forces came to his home in the middle of the night, burned the home to the ground, and Howlett was summarily executed. The former samurai (now ronin) that were Janes teachers and guardians spirited her away from the attack and took her to the only safe place they could think of a mountain temple that belonged to the Yakuza.
In the mountains, Jane seemed to undergo a transformation. In a fit of grief, she took a sword and hacked the front of her long hair off as a sign of mourning. As it grew out, it came to be the very style that distinguishes her to this day. After spending a week in silence in the temple, and with nowhere else to go, she emerged to request sanctuary within the Yakuza clan. She continued her training in the martial arts, as well as more clandestine techniques valued by the Imperial government: she was trained militarily, in languages and assassination. Her goal was to kill the man that had executed her father. She saw herself as a ronin a masterless samurai that owed her father this final act of obedience. The Yakuza became her only family, but she still felt like an outsider, a misfit. Within a month, she made the request to be allowed to undergo the traditional tattooing that would mark her forever. The tattoos were a test of strength the procedure took 100 hours for the back tattoo alone. She had the master tattoo artist create a unique design for her alone that incorporated the imagery of her mothers people as well as the traditional symbols of Japan, resulting in a tribal style tattoo laid down in black ink only. She used the pain as a way to focus her grief and the inking of her skin became an initiation into her new life, a transformation into the weapon that would avenge her father and allow his spirit to rest. It was her duty, her giri. If she died in the process, so much the better. To complete the metamorphosis she abandoned her own name and took one of her fathers: Logan.
Her revenge was successful. She savagely took the life of the man that had killed her father, fighting like an animal with bone claws sprouting from the backs of her hands; but she was severely wounded during her escape. Her Yakuza clan brought her back to the mountain, and watched over her as they waited for her to die. To their great surprise she didnt die; instead, her injuries healed with unnatural speed, the tattoos becoming whole along with her body. Believing her to be a demon or a hungry ghost, the Yakuza cast her out.
Logan has wandered throughout her long years, honing her abilities in combat, weapons and explosives whenever possible while doing the only thing she has ever really known: black ops and wetwork in all forms, for which she has a talent and a decided taste. Her mutation and her treatment at the hands of Weapon X make it impossible for her to recall all the events of her life; but her past, particularly that of Japan, beckons to her with incredible frequency and strength, and she considers that country her hearts home. She frequently returns to Japan, and over the years she has spent more time there than anywhere else.
Extraneous Information: Logan has a long and deadly list of enemies, most notably the mutant Sabretooth, a person with abilities much like Logans own and with whom she has a long standing mutual hatred. Recently, she has exacted revenge upon Sabretooth, killing him in a most brutal fashion at the Xavier Foundation Charity Gala.

When she entered the dojo just before dawn, she sat down quietly and inhaled deeply, centering herself to begin her morning meditation. This time spent alone allowed her a moments respite from the world, and from the questions that continually haunted her dreams. Thirty minutes later Logan took another deep breath and slowly opened his eyes. She ran her hands along her thighs, the feeling returning to her limbs as she rolled her shoulders and her neck. She gazed out of the windows, eyes focusing on nothing in particular, and curled her toes up underneath her heels. In one quick movement, Logan effortlessly propelled herself up off the tatami floor and landed gracefully on her feet. Bringing both palms together in front of her chest, she began a series of katas, flawlessly executing the movements with power and grace. She moved elegantly and with great ease through the forms, as easily as water flows in a river. She punched and kicked and spun in the air, landing lithely as a cat as she progressed through the sequences. Her chi was centered. Her body and her mind were one.
In ten minutes Logan had completed the string of unarmed katas and stood in the middle of the tatami mats once again, breathing lightly. She had yet to break a sweat. The morning sun was bleeding through the windows, filling the room with a gentle, golden light. She glanced down at her watch and frowned, heading for the door.
She was late. She had an appointment with Magneto, and the leader of the Brotherhood didnt like to be kept waiting. She had no idea what the Master of Magnetism had planned for her and truly she didnt care. As long as whatever it was allowed her to free the feral side of her nature - however briefly - and the fee was right, it was fine with her.
